A cautionary tale, please take note

Are you inundated with cold calls from service providers pushing a little too hard for you to sign up with them?  This is most comon with Energy but also applies to merchant services and telecoms.

Allow me to tell you a story, it may save you a lot of grief.  One of my customers recently called me in tears.  She was suddenly receiving a huge number of calls (38 on one day) from people claiming to be calling from her existing energy provider. They told her that she MUST sign her new energy contract as she was now within 240 days of the expiry of her current deal.  They said this was a new rulling and she would be penalised if she didn't act quickly.  She had received this type of call before and tried blocking them but they would just call from a different number. By the time I spoke with her she was distraught, worried about breaking some new rule and totally harrassed by the sheer volume of calls and pushy approach of the callers.

None of what she was told was true. They were not calling from her provider, she did not need to renegotiate her contract and there had been no changes to any rules.  What had happened was she had entered the period in which she could negotiate her next contract if she wished to.  The call centre had obtained data about suppliers and contract end dates and they were trying to get in there first to secure a sale.  A sale at extortionate rates I might add.

Please STOP and think before accepting what you are being told or offered.

The individual you are speaking to is likely to be one of many commission based sales people working in a call centre somewhere.  You are unlikely to get speak to them again and as a result they are rarely held accountable for what they say to you.

If you find yourself in this position and are unsure of the facts do please get in touch with me.  I have been doing this for many years, I have access to national databases with useful information and I will hopefullly be able to provide some much needed support and clarity.

UAC Team are different. We don't have call centres, we work within your local communities. We are accountable for what we say and do and have advisors across the UK. With unprecedented price increases and worldwide instability everyone needs a friend in the utilties sector right now. We would be happy to be that friend for you.
