Norwegian football team, Brag Trondenes were recently given the opportunity to visit Altrincham and participate in a match against Manchester City FC’s Select team, as part of a unique football experience organised by Sporting Fabric. The team, made up of 14 years olds, from a small town called Trondenes in Northern Norway, have a good reputation in youth football and in 2011 beat FC Barcelona’s under-14s select team. Sporting Fabric has a great deal of experience arranging well organised sport tours to the continent and beyond, with future groups planned from Sweden. Commenting on the programme, John Harding said: “Our programmes are designed to ensure that the team get the most out of their week-long visit. It is our objective that we also show them what the local area has to offer in addition to football, helping to boost the local economy. From experience, the teenager’s main attraction is coming to England to train and see the mechanics of a Premier League Academy.” As part of their seven-night programme, the team participated in a weeks coaching with UEFA approved coaches at Greater Manchester Football Academy, where they were put through their paces, and given the opportunity to develop and improve their football skills. During their stay, the group played a friendly fixture against Manchester City’s Select team, giving them a chance to see a Premier League clubs academy in action, and also a game against Stockport County FC. Away from training, the youth team enjoyed a stadium tour around Manchester City’s Etihad stadium and got to watch a Premier League fixture, Manchester City vs. Bolton Wanderers, as well as excursions to the Trafford Centre and the local area.
